In absence of authentic information on any exam, I always advise the aspirants to help of similar exams – for example in this case, you can refer to the Assistant Commandants exam for Central Police Forces conducted by UPSC.First let us start with an analysis of the selection process for Assistant Commandants in Indian Coast Guard. Exam Pattern/Format for Assistant Commandants in Indian Coast Guard:Selection Process for Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard consists of a two stage selection - Preliminary Selection & Final Selection, followed by Medical exam. You can find the components of these two stages in the table given below:
You can find short description of the tests below:MAT (Mental Ability test): MAT in Assistant Commandants exam consists of General Awareness & Test of Reasoning (Verbal & Non Verbal Reasoning).PP&DT (Picture Perception & Discussion Test): In this test, a picture is shown to the candidates for a very brief period of time – say for only 30 seconds. You than have to write a story in about 4 minutes, based on what is your perception about the picture. Next, there will be a Group Discussion, in which each member of the group describes his story about the picture and try to arrive at a common story for the group.Above two tests are in the Preliminary selection stage. You have to qualify in MAT and only than you can appear for PP&DT. And only if you can clear both of them, you would be called for Final selection stage, which consists of following tests:Psychologist test: This consists of TAT, WAT, SRT & SD as described below.Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): Also called as Picture Story writing. Similar to PP & DT, but here there is no discussion. Also, you will be shown about 12 slides, each only for about 30 seconds. You have to write a story on the picture being shown.Word Association Test (WAT): Similar to TAT, about 60 words are shown in quick succession, each word lasting for only 15 seconds. You have to write the first thought which comes to your mind on seeing the word – it may be a sentence or a phrase.Situation Reaction Test (SRT): Here some situational cases are given and you have to write what is your reaction in those situations – say you had gone on tour and have lost your purse – what would you do?Self Description Test (SD): You have to describe yourself in a passage.

In the very beginning let me tell you that NIFT Entrance Exam is conducted for 6 B. Des programs, 1 B. F. BSF ASI (Steno) & HC (Min) Exam Pattern Papers Books

This blog article of mine is a sequel to a previous blog post titled: BSF ASI HC Recruitment 2012-2013 Notification & Forms and is intended to provide you the prep materials for BSF recruitment exam for Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI-Steno) and Head Constables (HC-Ministerial). It at first discusses about the pattern of BSF ASI & HC Exam and than goes on to provide you the sample papers & prep books to prepare for the same.
In the very beginning, let me tell you that prep materials available on the net for  BSF ASI & HC written Exam is very scarce- almost non-existent and hence, you have to depend on prep materials available for similar recruitment exams conducted for bank clerks as well as for SSC exam for Stenographers etc.

Selection process for BSF ASI-Steno & HC-Ministerial:

Selection process for ASI-Steno & HC-Ministerial positions in BSF is conducted in two phases: Written exam in Phase-I & other tests in Phase-II. You can find the selection process in the flow-chart at right.

The skill test for BSF ASI & HC consists of following:
BSF ASI (Steno):
Shorthand 70 WPM in English or in Hindi for 10 minutes.
Transcription of English diction in 60 minutes or Hindi diction in 75 minutes on computer.
BSF ASI (Min):

Typing 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi for 10 minutes.

Exam Pattern/Syllabus for BSF ASI & HC Exam: There are 100 marks in the written exam,which is of 1-hour 40 minute duration. It has five parts and you can find the section-wise mark-distribution of BSF ASI & HC Exam in the table at left. Minimum qualifying mark is 35 for General category & 33 for others. This exam pattern is very similar to Common written exam for bank clerks conducted by IBPS, which is as given in the table at right:  As you can see all the sections are identical and only the number of questions and hence the mark is double in IBPS CWE for Clerk. Hence you can use the prep materials (i.e. sample paper & book) for IBPS CWE for Clerk to prepare for the written exam of BSF ASI (Steno) & HC (Min).

No Syllabus for BSF ASI & HC Exam has been given along with the notification. But you can take help of the syllabus given for CISF ASI exam, which has almost almost the same format. You can click here to download this syllabus.

Sample papers for BSF ASI & HC Exam:
Although I searched on the net for sample/previous years exam papers of BSF ASI & HC Exam, I could not locate any reliable papers. But I feel following authentic previous years SSC Steno exam papers should help you understand what sort of questions are asked in recruitment exams:

As you can find all these sample/model papers of SSC Steno exam gives you only one section of the exam – the English language. Therefore, you should rely on books (Practice Papers) available in the market to prepare for this exam.

SSB Head Constables Exam Pattern, Papers & Books

This 100 mark written exam has to be answered in 2 hours. The subject-wise mark distribution of the SSB Head Constables exams is given in the table at right.Minimum qualifying mark in SSB Head Constables exams is following:
For General, OBC & Ex-Servicemen: 40%
For SC/ST: 35%

Jaipur Metro (JMRC) exam for selection of Station Controller/ Train Operator, JE, CRA & Maintainers is going to be held on 9th & 23rd December, 2012 and most of you searching for previous years exam papers of JMRC exam may be disappointed not to find any. It is because  Jaipur Metro is a  nascent organisation - its is less than 2 year old and Jaipur Metro Exam 2012 is the first big recruitment being undertaken by JMRC to fill up its manpower vacancy.

Therefore you can take the help of DMRC exam papers and books to prepare for JMRC exam.

First, let us do that by analyzing the pattern of exam for various positions in  Jaipur Metro.For JMRC Station Controller/ Train Operator: Written Test, Psychometric Test, Interview.For JMRC Customer Relations Assistant: Written Test, Interview.For JMRC  Junior Engineers: Written Test.For JMRC Maintainers:Written Test.The successful candidates after crossing the above selection process has to undergo Medical Fitness Test.If you have examined the above selection process for JMRC recruitment, you will find that for Station Controller/ Train Operators, there is a separate test called Psychometric Test, which is purely qualifying (just like Medical Test). If you have examined the above Jaipur Metro Exam Pattern closely you will find that for the technical positions (i.e. JE & Maintainers), there is no Interview and the selection would be held purely based on the written exam. That is why total marks in the written test for these two positions is 100 marks while for other positions (i.e. Station Controller/ Train Operator & CRA), total mark is 90 - Interview bearing the rest 10 marks. Jaipur Metro Exam paper has to be answered in 2 hours & 15 minutes. And there is negative marking in JMRC exam - 0.25 for each wrong answer. So make your guess answers wisely!

As told before,  Jaipur Metro Exam 2012 is being held for the first time by JMRC to fill up these positions and hence you have to rely on DMRC exam to base your preparation. I tried searching for previous years exam papers of DMRC but could not locate any authentic exam papers. You can however try these DMRC exam papers from FreshersWorld, although I do not vouch for the authenticity of these papers.

Rajasthan Power JE Exam Pattern, Syllabus, Papers & Books

This blog article is being written as a sequel to my previous blog post titled: Rajasthan Power JE Recruitment 2012 Notification, Form & Eligibility. Focus of this blog post is on providing you the prep materials for the written exam being conducted for selection of Junior Engineers (JE) in five power sector companies of Rajasthan: RVPNL, RVUNL, JVVNL, AVVNL & Jd.VVNL.The blog post discusses about the pattern of Rajasthan Power JE Exam, points you to the Syllabus, Sample Papers & list of Books you can use for this exam. At the very outset let me tell you that prep materials available on the net for Rajasthan JE Exam is non-existent and hence the prep materials presented here is taken from materials for other similar exams conducted for PSU/Govt. companies.Rajasthan Power JE Exam Pattern:Rajasthan RVPNL has not said much about the pattern of exam in its recruitment notification other than that the question paper shall be of 2-1/2 hours duration with total 125 Objective type questions in two sections: Section-1:  100 questions on respective engineering discipline: Electrical/ Mechanical/ Civil/ PLCC/ C&I/ Fire Fighting.Section-2:  25 questions on 'General Awareness' with specific reference to Rajasthan State. Each question weighs 1 mark, thus total 125 marks in the exam. There will be five answer options for each question and you have to choose the best answer. There is no negative marking in Rajasthan Power JE Exam. The medium of the written exam will be 'English' only.Rajasthan Power JE Exam Cut-Off:To be considered for the merit list, you will need to score minimum cut-off 35% marks for UR category and 25% marks for SC/ST/OBC/BC/SBC (Non creamy-layer)/PH/ all female candidates. It means if you are from UR category, you need to get minimum 44 answers correct and 32 answers if you belong to other categories as given above.Rajasthan Power JE Exam Syllabus:Rajasthan RVPNL has not prescribed any separate syllabus for the JE exam and as per the notification, “The standard and syllabus of the examination will be of the level of Graduation Degree in Engineering”.The best way to go forward in your preparation for RVPNL JE exam would be to base your preparation on similar exam conducted by NTPC for graduate engineers (Executive Trainees): Electrical/ Mechanical/ Civil/ Control & Instrumentation. You can also use the GATE exam engineering papers to prepare for Rajasthan Power JE Exam, since both exams are for engineering graduates.Rajasthan Power JE Exam Sample papers:As told before, you can use the sample papers of following NTPC ET papers, just to have an idea regarding what questions are set in the selection exams for engineers in PSUs:

There shall be No Negative Marking

Minimum Passing Marks-

Minimum passing marks for male candidates of UR category shall be 35% marks. For the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/BC/SBC (Non creamy-layer)/PH and for all female candidates, it will be 25% marks.

Selection Procedure-There shall be no interview. A General Merit list of all the successful candidates, for each discipline i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Control & Instrumentation/PLCC, Civil & Fire Fighting shall be prepared separately on the basis of marks secured by the candidates in written competitive examination. Thereafter, category-wise merit lists shall be prepared. However, in case two or more candidates acquire same merit position, then their date of birth shall be deciding factor to determine their merit, i.e. the elder candidate shall be placed higher in the merit-list.
