This article of mine is intended to provide you the prep materials for  Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandants Exam - by pointing you to whatever prep materials are available on the net for the same. In absence of authentic information on any exam, I always advise the aspirants to help of similar exams – for example in this case, you can refer to the Assistant Commandants exam for Central Police Forces conducted by UPSC.First let us start with an analysis of the selection process for Assistant Commandants in Indian Coast Guard. Exam Pattern/Format for Assistant Commandants in Indian Coast Guard:Selection Process for Assistant Commandant in Indian Coast Guard consists of a two stage selection - Preliminary Selection & Final Selection, followed by Medical exam. You can find short description of the tests below:MAT (Mental Ability test): MAT in Assistant Commandants exam consists of General Awareness & Test of Reasoning (Verbal & Non Verbal Reasoning).PP&DT (Picture Perception & Discussion Test): In this test, a picture is shown to the candidates for a very brief period of time – say for only 30 seconds. You than have to write a story in about 4 minutes, based on what is your perception about the picture. Next, there will be a Group Discussion, in which each member of the group describes his story about the picture and try to arrive at a common story for the group.Above two tests are in the Preliminary selection stage. You have to qualify in MAT and only than you can appear for PP&DT. And only if you can clear both of them, you would be called for Final selection stage, which consists of following tests:Psychologist test: This consists of TAT, WAT, SRT & SD as described below.Thematic Apperception Test (TAT): Also called as Picture Story writing. Similar to PP & DT, but here there is no discussion. Also, you will be shown about 12 slides, each only for about 30 seconds. In the very beginning let me tell you that NIFT Entrance Exam is conducted for 6 B. Des programs, 1 B. F. Tech program and 3 Master programs.If you want to know what this programs are and in which NIFT it is being offered, you are suggested to visit that previous introductory blog article. Having said that, let us begin by knowing what is the exam pattern of NIFT Entrance Exam.NIFT Entrance Exam Pattern/Syllabus:NIFT Entrance Exam is held in two stages - the written (GAT & CAT) and subsequent tests (Situation Test or GD/Interview). All of this tests are not applicable to all the programs and you can see from the table at right which test is conducted for which NIFT programs.As you can see, for B. F. tech, only a single test - GAT is conducted. Also you can find that GD/Interview is conducted only for Masters program (i.e. M Des., M.F. tech & MFM).What are GAT, CAT & Situation Test in NIFT Entrance Exam?  You can find short descriptions of the test and what questions you can expect from NIFT syllabus given below:1. Quantitative Ability: It tests the quantitative ability, comprising questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.2. Communication Ability: It tests your language ability in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.3. WBJEE 2013 Reforms : Separate papers for Chemistry & Physics – Exclusion of Negative marked students from Merit list

West Bengal state joint entrance examination board has decided to make few changes for the WBJEE 2013, they are planning to conduct the test with physics and chemistry as separate papers and also to exclude the candidates who got negative marks from the merit list. Other than this, the board has increased the weightage given to the physics and chemistry subjects to reduce the imbalance with third subject Maths. Previously the students have to answer 2 papers in WBJEE – mathematics, carrying 100 marks and another paper contains questions from both physics and chemistry which carries 50 marks each.

Now as per the reforms if it is  going to happen, the students may have to appear for  3 papers. This time Physics and chemistry are going to be separate papers which carries 75 marks each and the mathematics paper will carry 100 marks. The JEE board chairman Bhaskar Gupta said that they have finalized these changes in the meeting and this may take some time. He also quoted that the JEE Authorities have also decided not to follow the practice of awarding ranks to the students appearing the exam. BSF ASI (Steno) & HC (Min) Exam Pattern Papers Books

This blog article of mine is a sequel to a previous blog post titled: BSF ASI HC Recruitment 2012-2013 Notification & Forms and is intended to provide you the prep materials for BSF recruitment exam for Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI-Steno) and Head Constables (HC-Ministerial). It at first discusses about the pattern of BSF ASI & HC Exam and than goes on to provide you the sample papers & prep books to prepare for the same.
In the very beginning, let me tell you that prep materials available on the net for  BSF ASI & HC written Exam is very scarce- almost non-existent and hence, you have to depend on prep materials available for similar recruitment exams conducted for bank clerks as well as for SSC exam for Stenographers etc.

Selection process for BSF ASI-Steno & HC-Ministerial:

Selection process for ASI-Steno & HC-Ministerial positions in BSF is conducted in two phases: Written exam in Phase-I & other tests in Phase-II. You can find the selection process in the flow-chart at right.

The skill test for BSF ASI & HC consists of following:
BSF ASI (Steno):
Shorthand 70 WPM in English or in Hindi for 10 minutes.
Transcription of English diction in 60 minutes or Hindi diction in 75 minutes on computer.
BSF ASI (Min):

Typing 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi for 10 minutes.

Exam Pattern/Syllabus for BSF ASI & HC Exam: There are 100 marks in the written exam,which is of 1-hour 40 minute duration. It has five parts and you can find the section-wise mark-distribution of BSF ASI & HC Exam in the table at left. Minimum qualifying mark is 35 for General category & 33 for others. This exam pattern is very similar to Common written exam for bank clerks conducted by IBPS, which is as given in the table at right:  As you can see all the sections are identical and only the number of questions and hence the mark is double in IBPS CWE for Clerk. Hence you can use the prep materials (i.e. sample paper & book) for IBPS CWE for Clerk to prepare for the written exam of BSF ASI (Steno) & HC (Min).

No Syllabus for BSF ASI & HC Exam has been given along with the notification. But you can take help of the syllabus given for CISF ASI exam, which has almost almost the same format. You can click here to download this syllabus.

Although I searched on the net for sample/previous years exam papers of BSF ASI & HC Exam, I could not locate any reliable papers. But I feel following authentic previous years SSC Steno exam papers should help you understand what sort of questions are asked in recruitment exams:

That is why total marks in the written test for these two positions is 100 marks while for other positions (i.e. Station Controller/ Train Operator & CRA), total mark is 90 - Interview bearing the rest 10 marks. Jaipur Metro Exam paper has to be answered in 2 hours & 15 minutes. And there is negative marking in JMRC exam - 0.25 for each wrong answer. So make your guess answers wisely!
