What is All India Bar Examination? If you are passing your legal qualification exam (i.e. Ll.B) from academic year 2009-2010 onwards, you CAN enroll as an advocate but CAN NOT practice law till you clear the AIBE (All India Bar Examination).

Bar Council of India has launched AIBE primarily to address the inadequate quality of legal education in India. Number of Lawyers in India as per BCI website is 11 lakh now and every year 60,000 gets added as fresh lawyers. BCI feels there should be an entry-level assessment for fresh lawyers to enhance the quality of the bar and therefore and AIBE is being conducted.

AIBE tests an advocate’s ability to practice the profession of law in India – it tests candidate’s analytical abilities and basic knowledge of law. AIBE is a objective type, pass/fail exam – you would either pass AIBE or fail – no percentage, percentile, rankings, or absolute marks will be declared. For more on AIBE, please go through my blog post: All India Bar Exam Pattern, Syllabus & Model Papers.
